History

The University of Kansas has been competing in Formula SAE events since 1994. Building on years of experience and continued alumni support, Jayhawk Motorsports has been increasingly successful in recent years, including two back to back top ten finishes at the FSAE competition in Detroit in 2006 and 2007.

Each year the team designs, manufactures, and tests a completely new vehicle. Jayhawk Motorsports manufactured its first carbon fiber chassis in 1998, and has since become the longest running FSAE team to build a carbon fiber chassis in-house. They also own and operate an engine dynamometer and chassis dynamometer for powertrain development. In addition, the team utilizes CAE tools such as SolidWorks, MSC/Adams, CosmosWorks, Nastran, and FlowWorks to aid the design process.

In 2007, Jayhawk Motorsports reached Design Finals for the first time in KU history, placing the team in 4th place for engineering of the vehicle. Further, Jayhawk Motorsports continued its strong history of reliability as the only FSAE team to successfully finish ALL events for the past 7 years!
