KU School of Engr Expo - February 22, 2008

Not two days after returning from Wichita, team members put on a show right here in our shop for high school and middle students from local schools surrounding Lawrence for the School of Engineering's Annual Engineering Expo. Both Eaton and Learned Halls were transformed into exhibits and interactive displays as the different departments pulled out all the stops to show off projects currently underway and promote engineering. The 2000 and 2007 cars were on full display as were the other parts of our shop. Team members, decked out in driving suits, were on hand to answer questions and assist as kids climbed in and out of the cars for pictures. As with all past years, the racecars were a big hit amongst the kids and team members had fun promoting the project. The JMS08 car even made some of its first public appearances during the two-day event.
Wichita Engr Expo - February 20, 2008

A handful of team members traveled to Wichita, KS for the Hawker Beechcraft Engineering Expo for high school and middle school students from surrounding areas. Both the 2000 and 2007 car made the two hour drive, but due to weather, only the 2007 was put on display inside the auditorium. Team members spoke with students and teachers about the project and life at KU. The night before Expo saw a dinner hosted by the KU School of Engineering for prospective students, where team members were on hand to answer any and all questions. A good time was had by all team members, and while seeing other projects around, the JMS Formula Car was, of course, the best.

As the semester is drawing to a close, as is the design phase of JMS 08. Tuesday night, December 11th, will see final design
presentations delivered by all members of the team. Manufacturing will then commence as team members devote a good portion of the
upcoming winter break to machining parts and laying up the chassis. Great progress has been made over the last few months and
designs are coming together such that the team is now starting to focus on manufacturing schedules and materials. With the end of
the semester comes a big sigh of relief, and an intensified period of solid work on the JMS 08 car.
Homecoming Parade - November 3, 2007

The University of Kansas’ Homecoming activities started on a high note with the traditional Homecoming Parade. Jayhawk Motorspots was proud to feature vehicles by the 2007, 2006, 2005 and 2000 teams, as well as our truck and trailer. Team members showed up in full force, sporting official JMS 08 shirts, and were joined by a few of our alumni, who have provided invaluable support to teams since being members. All four cars were definite crowd pleasers as they wound their way down Jayhawk Boulevard, supported by team members, as they walked alongside the cars, ready to lend assistance if it was needed. Team members pooled their efforts and time throughout the week to get the older vehicles up to speed, and it made for a good show on Saturday. Thanks go out to everyone involved & Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
Second Design Review - Ocotber 20, 2007

As the sun rose over Lawrence on Saturday, October 20th, the JMS 08 team kicked off its second design review. It was broadcast via a live webcast to alumni, who called in with comments and questions, offering suggestions for almost all aspects of design. A full vehicle model was assembled on SolidWorks, containing all major parts, giving viewers the first glimpse of the completed car. As proved through presentations by the chassis and powertrain teams, great strides forward on all areas on design have been made since the previous deign review, but there is yet lots of work to do refining designs. Team members now have a little over 3 weeks to make final changes, and be fully prepared with final designs for the 3rd design review, set for November 10th. Stay tuned….
